WONDR NATION Partners with the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center to Support the 2026 National Week of Action
Tribally Owned Gaming and Entertainment Company Supports the Fight Against Indigenous Abuse
Mashantucket, CT (May 5, 2026)
WONDR NATION, the online gaming and entertainment company owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, today announced its sponsorship of the 2026 National Week of Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives (MMIWR), presented by the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center (NIWRC), taking place now through May 8, 2026. As part of the partnership, WONDR NATION is supporting Art in Action, an initiative that harnesses the power of Native art to raise awareness of the MMIWR crisis.
The MMIWR crisis remains one of the most pressing human rights emergencies facing Indigenous communities in the U.S. A 2016 study by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) reported that 84% of American Indian and Alaska Native women have experienced violence in their lifetime, and 56% have experienced sexual violence. Despite these realities, Native communities continue to face significant gaps in resources, justice, and visibility.
“This partnership is deeply personal to me,” said Anika Howard, President and CEO of WONDR NATION. “The MMIWR crisis is a lived reality for far too many Native communities. As a tribally owned company, we carry a responsibility to use our platform to uplift and support Indigenous voices. Partnering with Art In Action during the National Week of Action is one meaningful way we’re honoring that commitment and driving awareness where it’s urgently needed.”
The National Week of Action is an annual call for communities, advocates, and allies to act on the MMIWR crisis. Today, May 5, 2026, NIWRC launches Art in Action — an open call for artists and community members to submit work that honors Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives through storytelling, sovereignty, and action.
“The National Week of Action is a time for our communities to come together, raise their voices, and demand change,” said Lucy Rain Simpson, Esq., Chief Executive Officer of the National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center. “Art has always been central to how our people heal, resist, and reclaim their power. We are grateful for partners like WONDR NATION who understand the urgency of this crisis and are willing to stand alongside us in meaningful ways.”
WONDR NATION’s sponsorship of this initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to uplifting Indigenous communities and supporting solutions that create lasting impact. Members of the public, advocates, and allies are encouraged to engage in the National Week of Action by submitting artwork, sharing NIWRC's educational resources, and amplifying awareness of the MMIWR crisis.
